Planning a Trip to Viking Outposts or Viking Island Lodge

Planning Check List

Years of experience have taught us that reliable friendly service and good planning attract our guests back year after year. Please use this information as a guide and don't hesitate to call or email us for advice as you plan your trip.

Getting to Red Lake is no problem. It is a direct drive north from the midwest United States or an easy flight from Winnipeg, Manitoba. Red Lake is a well known fishing destination because it is a gold mining town in the middle of Canadian wilderness. We are proud of our little town, which provides us with all the services we need. Hotels, restaurants, grocery stores, fishing equipment, gift stores and hospital all welcome our guests. You may want to reserve a hotel room in Red Lake for the night before you fly out to camp.

You can bring your own groceries and beverages or you can fill out our Grocery Order and fax it to us. It will be ready for your flight to camp. You will be charged only the grocers bill.

If you would like to look at a map of the lake, go to Location of Outposts, then click through to a location and click on the map for a bigger version. When you get to our office, we will give you a map to take with you to camp. If you would like to program your GPS, you will find the lake co-ordinates at GPS Points.

Each float plane has an allotted weight capacity. for safe flying, we must enforce weight restrictions. Each adult is allowed 150 pounds. this includes food, clothing, fishing tackle, beer, soda and bagged ice. We charge $0.75/pound but we prefer that you stay within your weight allowance.
