Moose Hunts with the Vikings
We have outfitted moose hunters for 50 years. When Arthur Carlson came to the Red Lake area in 1928, he found work hunting wild game to supply the mine cookeries. He explored all year round. In 1948 he and wife Florence started one of the first remote fishing/hunting camps. Their sons, Hugh and Craig, were brought up in the bush. They got their pilots licences, bought a plane and started an outpost business in the 1970's.
A moose hunt should be planned for each individual group so it is hard to provide specific details on this site. If you are interested in a hunt, please phone.
Our hunts are usually outfitted using our
outpost cabins. Hunts can also be outfitted using a remote camp site. We do not provide guides.
Arthur and Tom got their moose.
Arthur Carlson was hunting by himself when he came across this large bull on October 19. It is his first moose. It was long past dark when he finished gutting and tagging the moose and then walking out of the bush. Thank goodness for his Cat Eyes.

Tom Schmidt came hunting with his Dad and friends this fall. He came upon this large bull on October 11, his first moose. He was amazed at the massive size of the animal and happy to have help from Dad after it was shoot.

Rob Poumade says, "Here's the big-daddy (that's the moose, not my father-in-law I'm talking about). The slightly older fellow in the pic is Geoff Krueger, my wifes' dad, who I spent the entire hunt with, and thank so dearly for allowing me to go. We were hunting north of Red Lake, Ontario the first week of October, 2005, on what I consider the hunt of a lifetime. I recommend anyone interested to check out Viking Outposts for information, they were our outfitter and took care of us in wonderful fashion. I have never left Michigan to hunt before, and really, really want to go back. I can ramble on for hours about the time in camp, but I'll just stop here."
