Viking Outpost Air can fly you to one of our 12 Viking Outposts on a wide variety of lakes north of Red Lake or to Viking Island, a unique American plan lodge, located in Woodland Caribou Wilderness Park on Douglas Lake. If you prefer a remote location of your choice for canoeing and exploring, we can fly you in. On any of these remote lakes in the northern boreal forest, fishing is out of this world.

Walleye, northern and lake trout are waiting. Your hosts, Hugh and Craig Carlson, began offering first class fly-in outpost trips 30 years ago. They have the experience and enthusiasm to plan a great wilderness trip for you and your group.

Our Base in Red Lake - Viking Outpost Air

Your adventure begins on the shores of Red Lake at our float base (Terminal III). Here Hugh or Craig greet you in person and you begin your trip. We park your vehicle for free. We answer last minute questions, write your fishing licences, check that your groceries and other details are in order before you board the plane. You will be flown to your favourite fishing spot in our Norseman, Beaver or Cessna floatplanes by experienced pilots who also have grown up here and know the bush. 12 different Remote Cabins - Viking Outposts

Our outposts are spread out over a huge area north and west of Red Lake. Over the past 50 years, Hugh, Craig, and their father, Arthur Carlson, handpicked the lakes to build on. They carefully picked the cabin location on each lake with safety and comfort in mind. The lakes they found offer a great variety of fishing habitats. Each location has its own charm and draws its guests back year after year. All lakes team with walleye and northern. Some of the deeper lakes have lake trout. A Unique Fishing Camp - Viking Island Lodge

Our fishing camp is a small fly-in resort dedicated to fishing. It is located on Douglas Lake and surrounded by a group of accessible lakes which offer a great variety of adventures. The atmosphere here will take you back a few years. A wood cook stove warms the kitchen. Hand hune log cabins built completely on site by us fit into the wilderness nicely. The island has a maximum of 24 guests per week so this is not a big time operation. Our schedule is relaxed and we are always ready to help plan another adventure your style.
